All students must have health insurance for the entire duration of their studies, as the universities are obliged to register the insured students with the relevant health insurance funds in accordance with § 200 Para. 2 SGB V in conjunction with the Student Health Insurance Registration Ordinance (Studentenkrankenversicherungs-Meldeverordnung). The insurance can be taken out through a statutory or private health insurance fund.
Due to the above mentioned obligation to register, a current insurance certificate (not older than 2 months) - please no membership certificate or insurance card - must always be submitted when enrolling in statutory health insurance. If you are privately insured, the HfWU absolutely needs an exemption from the statutory health insurance for matriculation. This will be issued to you by a statutory health insurance company.
The HfWU must be notified immediately of any change of health insurance fund. In this case, please submit the current insurance certificate or exemption certificate from a statutory health insurance fund to the Studierendensekretariat without being asked to do so.
