New coronavirus infections in the district of Esslingen have exceeded 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants during the last seven days (7-day-incidence), the district has therefore been designated as a risk area. Stricter rules have been introduced in the entire district such as the wearing of a face covering in all public spaces where a distance of 1.5 m cannot be observed.

We would like to ask for your understanding that we as a university situated in the district of Esslingen are forced to take appropriate measures as we are responsible for the 6000 members of the university. Since the majority of the infection cases can be traced back to an outbreak in a local company, we do hope that the 7-day-incidence will fall below the 50 mark again. Therefore, the new measures we are introducing now we consider temporary; they will remain in place until 25 October 2020.

As already announced yesterday, from Monday 12 October on teaching at HfWU will revert to the online formats which have already proven successful during the first phase of the pandemic. There will be no face-to-face courses from 12 to 25 October. Courses scheduled in a face-to-face format up to Saturday 10 October 2020 can take place as planned. This applies to the entire university.

Examinations scheduled for this period (12 October to 25 October) can take place as long as they conform to the established hygiene and social distancing regulations. In particular, you must observe HfWU’s hygiene strategy from 24 July 2020.

We will also continue to make full use of our already established support tools during this time (12 to 25 October). This means that using the PC pools, the CAD/GIS lab and the study areas in the faculties is possible subject to prior booking and adhering to the hygiene and social distancing regulations. You can also continue to use the art studio spaces. We are trying to make individual study spaces available, too.

Please adhere to the AHA+L rule (social distancing, hygiene rules, mask, regular and thorough airing). We would like to remind you again that face coverings must be worn in all corridors and areas of circulation. Please also note that you are barred from entering the university if you have been in contact with somebody infected with the coronavirus within the last 14 days or if you have symptoms associated with COVID-19.

Access to the library will again be limited to borrowing and returning media, with extended opening hours, however. Unfortunately, studying and researching in the libraries is no longer possible. From 12 October 2020 on the following rules and opening hours apply in the library:

Nuertingen: Library Campus Innenstadt (town center campus): Mon - Fri 9:00 to 18:00 hrs
Nuertingen: Faculty library at Campus Braike: Closed
Geislingen Library: Mon – Fri 10:00 to 14:00 hrs (Wed till 16:00 hrs)

You can only enter the area where the actual books are kept after prior booking and for a maximum of 30 minutes. Please apply by email to (bibliothek-nuertingen@hfwu.de / bibliothek-geislingen@hfwu.de) or by phone (Nuertingen 07022 / 201-465, Geislingen 07331 / 22-495).

Please observe the following rules when using the library (borrowing media): Only a limited amount of visitors are allowed in the media library at the same time. Please enter only if a library basket is available. Please search for the media you want in the online library catalog before you come to the library as there are no PCs available there. The usual lending periods and renewal options apply. There are no special lending periods or automatic renewal options available.

We regret that we cannot offer any study spaces in the library. We would also like to remind you that you must wear a face covering (covering mouth and nose) during the entire time you spend in the library and that you have to keep a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from other people.

We are very sorry we have to take these measures, but following the current situation in the district of Esslingen, We hope you will understand.
