The CCSD is the institution responsible for coordinating NGU's internal affairs regarding Sustainable Development across departments and disciplines.
We also offer NGU's annual Award for Sustainability.
Currently, we are designing an online exchange. This platform will provide essential information about sustainable development.
The CCSD can provide support for enhancing the NGU’s concept of integrating education for sustainable development (ESD) in academic teaching. We integrate ESD in our own courses and we support student groups that conduct research projects with sustainability-related topics. We also offer summer courses not only characterized by a broad range of topics, but also by a wide variety of methods. For some events, we cooperate with external partners. Our events are aimed not only at NGU students, but also students from other universities, as well as other target groups. With our educational work for sustainable development and in line with the UN Decade of ESD (2005-2014) and the UNESCO Global Action Programme and its national implementation, we want to expand the inventory of systems and values knowledge for students about sustainability and motivate them to participate actively in the discourse surrounding ecological, economic and social development processes. Second, our events target the development of transformational and practical knowledge to support the participants in developing skills that enable them to realize change. We are members of the ESD-university network and we’re in the working group “ESD biosphere reserve Swabian Alb”.
We cooperate in research and transfer projects across departments and discipline, and we conduct our own research, all focusing on sustainable development. Interdisciplinary teamwork is crucial for our research: Due to our team’s qualifications we bring together expertise in the three disciplines decisive in sustainability research: economics, ecology and sociology. We focus on application-oriented research that is well-grounded in theory, using as well as combining quantitative and qualitative empirical methods. Interested students have the opportunity to become actively involved in our research questions and in our current research activities. We also provide support for publishing or presenting their results or theses. For an optimal research environment, we work closely together with the MLab - the innovation and Methods Laboratory.
