Orientation Week
- Incoming students in 2009
From Monday to Friday the week before lectures start, there is an orientation week. This week is designed to help you feel more comfortable in Germany and to give you time to register for classes, meet other exchange students and get to know the campuses. We even do a trip to a nice place within Germany.
We therefore ask you to arrive already on Friday (March 9th, 2012) before the orientation week. Please keep in mind that you can't move into the dormitories on the weekend.
You will receive the program of the orientation week shortly before your trip to Germany from the International Office (carola.staib@spam.hfwu.de).If you are not an exchange student please get registered at intoffice@spam.hfwu.de and ask for the detailed program.
To give you an idea what to expect, our orientation program normally looks as follows:
Program for the Orientation Days from March 10th - 16th, 2012
Saturday
- Intercultural Seminar from 10 am - 3 pm and from 2 - 5 pm
Monday
- Welcome at NGU
- Payment of social service fee (needed for registration)
- Discussion health insurance
- Campus Tour
- Registration
- Opening of bank account
- Welcome party
Tuesday
- Information on library services
- Registration at the town hall *
- Application for a residence permit (non-EU students) *
- Preparation of learning agreements *
- General information on studies and courses at NGU
- Presentation of the integration project Nt-Great and the module "Social Sciences & Voluntary Work"
- Presentation of the German language courses
* Your mentor (Pate) will help you fill in all the forms. He or she will accompany you to the various offices.
Wednesday
- FAQs about living and studying in Nürtingen
- Introduction to "Living in Germany"
- Presentations of the course "Germany in the heart of Europe"
Thursday - Excursion
For example: Factory tour at WMF AG (tableware and kitchenware company) and city tour Ulm
Friday
- Information on IT services
- Discussion of learning agreements
- Tour of Nürtingen
Semester Start on Monday
9.00 a.m. Semester opening by the Vice-President of NGU
2.00 p.m. Classes start
