Enrolment at Nürtingen-Geislingen University

The actual enrolment or registatration at university occurs after your arrival during the welcome week. 

Before your registration Erasmus and exchange students you have to pay the social service fee (Semesterbeitrag) of approx 76 € (NGU Nuertingen campus) or 36 € (NGU Geislingen campus). Full time bachelor and master degree students pay 76 € at the Geislingen campus and 116 € at Nürtingen campus. This is not a tuition fee but it serves to support the Student Services (Studentenwerk) and other activities within the University’s academic and social life. In Nuertingen it also covers a semester ticket for the VVS train/bus ticket which allows you to use all VVS (Greater Stuttgart Area) trains and buses after 6 p.m., on weekends, and on public holidays for free.  

When registering at Nuertingen-Geislingen University you have to show the original health insurance certificate valid for the whole semester. 
EU students only need to show their EHIC card. 
Non-EU students must provide documentation of their health insurance. If they do not purchase local statutory health insurance (approx 65 € per month) they will need a confirmation from one of the German statutory health insurance companies that they are exempted from statutory health insurance (Freistellung). These forms are available e.g. at the AOK (Allgemeine Ortskrankenkasse) . For the registration you also need to bring a passport photograph for the student ID card.

Some days after your registration you will receive the HfWU student card which is necessary to get your E-mail account, borrow books from the university library, pay for the meals at the student restaurants and for the printouts and copies at the university copy machines and printers. 

Student ID Card

You will receive your student ID card after your application for registration has been processed, after you have paid your social service fee and shown proof of health insurance.

With your student ID card you are entitled to use buses and trains of the VVS (Verkehrsverbund Stuttgart) after 6 pm, at weekends and on public holidays. 

You also need your student ID card to buy your meals at the cafeteria, make copies or borrow books from the university library. Upon presentation of your student ID card, you can get a student discount at some cinemas, museums and other places.

You also need the student ID card at the final exams to identify yourself.

If the card is lost, stolen or destroyed, this must be reported to the Admission Office at once and a duplicate card obtained on payment of 10 Euros.
