Landscape Planning & Nature Protection

Planning enjoyable spaces

Exkursion

The Nürtingen-Geislingen University offers at its campus in Nürtingen the internationally recognized bachelor degree program Landscape Planning & Nature Protection. It leads to the degree Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) and is the only bachelor degree program of its kind in Germany.

Together with the degree programs Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning, the emphasis of the program is the development, design and nurturing of stable, healthy and attractive cities and landscapes. Computer-aided planning tools help the students to create concepts for linking economic and ecological needs. Apart from the classic planning tools, the students learn the use of CAD and GIS-systems as well as multimedial 3D-animation for planning purposes. Nürtingen-Geislingen University houses experimental gardens and parks for demonstration and teaching. The students can study more than 1.500 different plants and trees.

Characteristics

The Bachelor Programme in Landscape Planning is designed to enable the self-reliant and qualified performance of all landscape planning tasks, including nature conservation work, thus preparing its students for work in planning offices and associations and at other private and public sector employees.

The main focus of the programme concerns the acquisition of sound scientific, technical and methodological competencies and tools and their use and consolidation in a large number of planning projects and an integrated practice-oriented module. Landscape architecture and urban planning knowledge is also conveyed to an extent that will enable qualified involvement in work in these fields. Aspects of mediation, moderation, public information and design and planning in a European context are integral components of the course.

The study program comprises 6 semesters plus one fully integrated internship. Many students spend their job-placement semester abroad to obtain international work experience and intercultural skills.

After completion of the degree program the student has gained 210 credits (instead of 180 credits normal for bachelor degrees). This can abbreviate the study time of a following master program, e.g. our master programs Environmental Studies or International Landscape Architecture.
